usb - 5 metres will work, 10 metres is going to cause problems. i tried this type of setup on my big dish, it was a generic usb dongle, worked well however: it will likely require mods to add the dipole elements to it , as the usb key sized dongles use a helically wound driven element and the earth-ground/plane of the pcb for the other side of the dipole. it was a prism chipset and also had issues with netstumbler, always showing a weak signal no matter what direction the dish was pointed ! however , if your pc is in the roof or close to the antenna then they work well on a converted pay-tv sat dish or terrestrial grid belkin make a usb version thats worth a look-at but beware of the dreaded " random disconnect" feature that seems to be built into belkin gear cheers
its a dogs life but someones got to do it |
