Orange

If you live in the Orange area, please go to www.wwwalker.com.au/wireless and register your lat/long and access point. I am trying to gauge interest in Orange. No-one in 6 mths has bothered to register. I don't have a cool board like you but wrote all the database search system myself as that is what I do in my small business. If this fails, I will do a wardrive one day using netstumbler and try to narrow in on areas that may have more activity just by sniffing the signals!! Seems hard but this may be the only way to find anyone out there! I am new to Orange (only lived here 2 years or less) so none of the social networks are in place to find other computer geeks in this area. I'm glad Bathurst Wireless exists. Leading Edge Computers in Bathurst Rd put me onto you. You have an amazing grid of access points.

I have broadened the scope to Cabonne Shire which encircles Orange anyway e.g. Nashdale. Cabonne has less height restrictions re antennas - 10m from ground - compared to 3m from roof ridge in Orange. We may setup the major antennas in Cabonne and point them at Orange to get around this problem with council bylaws on antenna height.

I have decided to give up and close the Orange/Cabonne Wireless Network. I cannot keep pouring my own energy into. No-one has responded. It is a waste of time unfortunately. Orange is just too cliquey.

it is a shame you are giving up Walker. It would have been nice to have a sister network in orange.

have you tried talking to any of the local computer stores to see if they know any one that would be interested?

when Somefella and I first started Bathurst wireless it was just 1 ap and 1 node for such a long time. Then someone else joined and just by word or mouth mostly the network has grown.

you might just have to setup and ap at your house and wait and see what happens

I burnt out my Netcomm NB5540 4-port wireless router by using the wrong power pack (16V instead of 12V) at the end of November. I can't afford a new one for some time as they cost around $100.

I have sniffed 2 other people near me.

If I ever get broadband and setup a public wireless access point, I will not put up an antenna. I will broadcast straight through the walls. Orange is very anti antennas! It's like hell to even get past go with all the rules and regulations this town throws at you!
