WRAP and Router/VPN OS
- 2008/05/22 08:26
#1
Just been tesing a few new Router configurations and I've found Zeroshell to be th all in one solution I've been looking for.

It's available in a few formats for few different hadrware configs
Vmware
ISO/CD
WRAP

http://www.zeroshell.net/eng/download/

Hardware Requirements
Pentium 233MHZ with 128MB RAM 2GB HDD or 1GB FLASH DRIVE

What does it do?
DHCP Server
VPN Server & Client
Proxy Server with Anti-virus
QOS
Firewall
DNS
NAT
PPPOE
Dynamic DNS (For noip.com type services)
Syslog

It's a simple easy to use OS for 99% of what you want in AP/Router they only thing you need to add is the OSLR protocol all driven by a web interface and it's free!

Sounds Interesting,

might grab the vmware image and have a play.

Do you know if it supports ACK adjustment?

Behind every little problem there's a larger problem, waiting for the little problem to get out of the way. When I do figure out the problem, my mind is like lightning, one brilliant flash then it is gone!

So would this mean my idea won't be needed any more?

It's cool if it's not. For what it's worth, OpenBSD supports more wireless adaptors in HostAP mode - http://www.openbsd.org/faq/faq6.html#Wireless - and the tools used by ZeroShell would be pretty easy to port, with the binary tools being happy to run under the OpenBSD kernel.

OpenBSD has more reverse-engineered wireless drivers available than the Linux distributions do. It also comes with hostapd out of the box, with wpa-supplicant in the ports repository.

The Idea's is to use a common system that's available to be used on WRAP's and STD PC Hardware.

If we could get a group of us togeather we could proably do the OS image in house using the best bit's from different sources.

My requirements are
FIREWALL - Protect LAN-INTERNET
VPN SERVER (To allow me to connect to LAN and Internet)
DYNDNS - for access fromm Internet ( I hate remember IP's)
HTTPD - Information WEB SITE Stats and Configuration.
PAT/NAT Facility

So far I've got my Linksys WAP connected to AP04 and I'm getting and avg 200-400k sec.

Be nice to see the link up between AP04 and AP02
