or do you possible mean ap01?
Sorry yes Ap01 thanks for the correction.
ultimatley we need more Barnacles, XtremeXs and BXSLs on the network that are in it for the long haul and are willing to run and fund ap's and backbones
I agree with the hard work and money these guy's and Aceman, Stu, Bluedog put in, but I don't believe that they should be burden with the costs of expanding the network.
I think we should get togeather and get organise to see the BXWIFI expand by proactively helping other community groups and business utilise the WIFI network and start self funding BXWIFI own AP's and infrastructure.
Bathurst Wireless by it's very nature is a community network and if the community isn't interested in it then no amount of funding will help it prosper
That's true but if the network is not growing how can you expect it to last?
I've got a list of four people wanting to connect just to access some resources from AP11 because the have been at my place and seen Asterisk working, Teamspeak and Game Servers and wanted access to them.
Thanks to Xtreme I've started connecting one of them in, but it saying that is not easy you need test gear antenna's etc ready to go and not many people in BXWIFI have that.
And now I've got to create my own new connection to MT Ovens as Mt Pan and Ap02 connections are less 100k sec and not worth running an AP or servers on.
If you have a central organisation who houses the test equipment and documentation the addition of new members AP's would be alot easier and faster.
I believe Xtremex has a list of people who want to connect but faces the problem with the cost of getting them connected. (Not his cost but the new member costs for Wireless gear and antennas etc)
I do think your sudjestion to form an association is a great idea and deffiantly worth looking into. I will most likley be moving to Canberra at some point next year but that won't stop me from participating in the network
It's the next step to see the BXWIFI to grow I'm not able to do any of the major positions (see key roles) myself, however I can provide help with getting new people setup on the network and helping set up the organisation of BXWIFI to operate.
There needs to be 6 people to operating the oganisation the best is to have all the AP owners and few client (node members) in the group so it's correctly represented.
Key Roles President Treasurer Secretary
Need to meet Once a year for AGM and probably best once a quarter for setup days or introduce new members etc.
Weekly correspondance etc can be done from the forums or email.
Participation is easy this site is great example of what has been already achieved all I'm asking for is for people to commit to setup the Organisation so that if people leave BXWIFI that the knowledge is kept and hopefully the access point is replaced or kept operational.
