Welcome to Bathurst Wireless

Written by XtremeX
bxwifiBathurst Wireless is a non-commercial community wireless group supplying wifi and wireless hotspots in New South Wales, Australia.  Using cheap off the shelf and home brew wireless (WiFi) equipment we are building a mesh wireless network that allows people to connect from home without the high costs carriers usually charge.  The high speeds obtained allow many services including VOIP, Gaming, Web, FTP and many more.

Bathurst Wireless Updates

Written by Administrator
I know development on the WiFi front can be slow at times as our lives become engrossed in the day to day living of work and more work.  But every now and then we get the opportunity to play.  On Wednesday the 14th of October Phill (XtremeX), Jase, Jim, Cazam, Eric all worked together too bring some open access points at Access Mount Ovens to fruition.  While the morning sky was a deep clear blue we soon fought against contstant, freezing winds estimated at over 30knots which makes modification and installation very difficult 70 meters in the air.  We battled against the oncoming onset of rain that we could see in the distance and the effort of scaling the tower numerous times.

Mount Ovens will open up many parts of Bathurst previously unaccessible due to hilly terrain and no LOS

Mount Ovens provides the following Access Points
bwifi-ap-mtovens-a
bwifi-ap-mtovens-b

Existing list of AP's
bxwifi-ap-mountpanorama
bxwifi-ap-xace
bxwifi-ap-xtremex
bwifi-ap-bs-2

bxwifi-ap02 may be up but is not connected atm (unfortunately due to storms in the area).  Barnacle who maintains this AP is currently located in Antartica!!!!  So if you can only see bxwifi-ap02 please be patient as Barnacle will restore his great setup on his return in December.
You can read more about Barnacles adventures here www.vk0bp.org

Cazam has relocated in to his new house an will have his AP up shortly.

Hooray for wireless

Well it has been a long time since news posts but tonight the network is finally fully connected again.
This means that all access points can connect to all other access points and the backbone links are functioning correctly.
Hopefully now we can build a bit of momentum and grow the network with some more nodes and access points.
So if you know anyone that has been thinking of connecting there is no time like now to get  them connected.
I'd also like to thank Somefella for all his help in restoring the network.

Cazam.

Another Great Night Out!!!

Written by XtremeX
eventBathurst Wireless is having yet another great night out.  This is a time for people to catch up, join in and talk wireless.  This night out is open to anyone that would like to come.  What will it be? Some games of pool or snooker mixed with dinner somewhere? No matter what I'm looking forward to it.  Have your say here.
